1. Kecak Dance

Kecak dance is the most famous dance and is the most sought after by tourists. This dance was created by Wayan Limbak and German artist Walter Spies in 1930. The average dancer is a man with dozens of people.


The dancers will sit in a circle and shout 'cak-cak-cak' continuously while raising their hands. This depicts the monkey soldiers helping Rama against Ravana in the Ramayana story.


2. Puspanjali Dance

Puspanjali dance is a dance for welcoming. The word puspanjali comes from puspa which means respect and anjali which means flower. So the meaning of this dance is to respect the guest like a flower.


This dance is performed by a group of women with the number of 5 to 7 people. These dancers describe a group of women who are happy with the arrival of guests who stop by to their area.


3. Trunajaya Dance

Trunajaya dance is taken from the word teruna which means youth. This dance tells of a man who wants to attract women.


The dancer will always widen his eyes with his firm dance moves. This describes the masculinity of a man. This dance will usually always be accompanied by the gamelan music Gong Kebyar.


4. Barong Dance

Barong dance tells of a clash between policies against crime. Barong comes from bahruang (bear), although bears have many other animal forms. This is contained in the type of barong dance that will be carried.


This dance is usually played by 2 men. One plays the head members and the other is on the tail.


5. Pendet Dance

Pendet dance is a type of worship dance that is usually performed in temples where Hindus worship. This dance is intended as a form of welcoming the coming of gods from the sky. This dance is played by several female dancers who wear traditional Balinese clothes.


6. Legong Dance

The next Balinese dance is the legong dance. Legong comes from 'leg' which means elastic and 'gong' which means gamelan. So this dance uses gamelan as a musical accompaniment.


Legong dance is played by 3 people, one of which acts as a predecessor dancer and 2 of them as legong. The dancers will wear fan accessories complete with frangipani flower ornaments on the head.


7. Dance Lines

As the name implies, this dance is formed in the position of dancers marching. This dance is a dance which is a form of ritual. However, for now, line dance is often performed for entertainment purposes.


Dance Baris depicts the courage of Balinese knights who are fighting to defend the King. The dancer will move his body like a hero who is at war.


9. Margapati dance

Margapati comes from 'marga' which means path and 'pati' which means death. So the meaning of margapati is the path to death.


This dance depicts the mistakes of a woman's life journey. Female dancers will present male dance movements who are ready to lurk and ready to pounce on their prey.


10. Panji Semirang Dance

Panji Semirang dance tells about Princess Galuh Candrakirana. This princess disguised herself as Raden Panji while traveling to comfort her sadness after the death of her husband. The hallmark of this dance is a female dancer who disguises herself as a boy by opening her eyes with a smile.
