The Ceremony Distinctive Identity of The Baduy Tribe

The Ceremony Distinctive Identity of The Baduy Tribe
The seren taun traditional ceremony is one of the traditions in the Sundanese community of Banten which is thick with magical and sacred nuances. This sacred nuance is formed by solemn ritual stages in the accompaniment of the sound of the musical instruments that accompany it. among the musical instruments accompanying the traditional seren taun procession, there is a bamboo musical instrument called angklung buhun.

The Ceremony Distinctive Identity of The Baduy Tribe
This instrument is believed to be from Lebak Regency, Banten Province. Buhun itself in Sundanese means old or old. this name manifests a long history of attachment to the Baduy community with this heritage instrument. Historically, angklung buhun appeared almost simultaneously with the formation of the Baduy community itself. because of this, this art is considered to have an important meaning in maintaining the existence of the Baduy community.

In terms of form, angklung buhun does not have a significant difference from angklung in general. His voice was more or less the same. a little difference only on the trinkets that are on the upper side of this angklung frame. Angklung buhun is usually equipped with rice stems tied in groups or tufts of leaves.

Different from angklung musical instruments in general, angklung buhun is a heritage of indigenous people that is used specifically in traditional rituals. For this reason, it is now quite difficult to find art groups or studios that perform buhun angklung. except in the implementation of traditional rituals such as seren taun, this art is rarely found in the midst of society.
